PURPOSE OF SITE COUNCIL

A site council was established to

  • Monitor and support the school's progress in the implementation of its goals
  • Safeguard the principles in the Washington School founding document
  • Listen to the input of all of the school's stakeholders
  • Participate in decisions regarding school policies, programs, and the use of the school's resources

The site council works to maintain site-based management through shared decision making.  Shared decision-making strives to improve the effectiveness of the school by enabling those who are most affected by decisions to have a greater role in making those decisions.  Our goals are aligned with district aims and goals and include:  improving student learning, maintaining a collaborative school environment, and achieving high student, parent, and staff satisfaction with our school.

Responsibilities of Site Council include:

  • Meet regularly to discuss school progress, share ideas, and recommend improvements
  • Monitor and modify the operations of the Site Council to ensure participation of all members and to develop a collegial, collaborative relationship between parents, staff, and administration
  • Monitor the implementation of the school's program to ensure adherence to our founding principles, strategy, and direction
  • Identify resources to support the school
  • Monitor the use of financial and material resources; recommend changes, as needed
  • Make decisions regarding the use of financial resources specifically allocated for control by the Site Council
  • Encourage activities to build a strong school community
  • Facilitate the involvement of parents and staff on school committees
  • Listen to and communicate with parents, staff, and community about issues and events affecting the operation and goals of the school
  • Monitor student learning results; recommend changes in assessment plans, as needed

Math Ad Hoc Committee
Based on the Decision Matrix developed through Site Council, a Math Ad Hoc committee was established for adopting textbooks to support the curriculum. This committee is comprised of parents who were interested in learning at a deeper level what staff have already learned during the 2016-17 school year and will continue to be engaged in during the 2017-18 school year around the area of math instruction.

The charge of this committee may be, but not limited to, sharing their learning from three book studies, data analysis review, scope and sequence of current curriculum documents, evaluation of possible new math curriculum through rubrics, seeking input from multiple stakeholders, etc. and provide recommendations to the Washington Site Council.
